ATP Bucharest, Hanescu v Granollers

Victor Hanescu has been Romania's number one player ever since the retirement on Andrei Pavel. He is adored in his native country and will be the firm favourite going into this match up with Spains Granollers. Hanescu's game is based around power, from his serve to his ground strokes. If he is playing well he can beat the best on his favoured clay court surface. He has suffered a little since his loss in the 3rd round at Wimbledon when it all got a bit nasty with some spectators, but their are signs of a recovery, and what better place for a return to form than in Bucharest, his birthplace. He reached the final in 2007 and will look to have a good tournament again, after his disappointing first round loss to Oscar Hernandez last year. Granollers is a solid clay court player though and wont make it easy for Hanescu. He reached the challenger final in Todi, Italy last week and will look to take this form on to Bucharest. He is talented but can sometimes struggle to finish off games. Head to head Hanescu leads 1-0 from a win in Kitzbuehel in 2009 also on clay. Hanescu should win again.

PREDICTION:

Hanescu to win
