The battle of the Spanish powerhouses is upon us. Rafa Nadal takes on compatriot David Ferrer in the Australian Open with both men in good form. Nadal hasn't played amazing tennis - yet! but he has done the job he has needed to do to reach the quarter finals. He has played solid hardcourt tennis with minimum mistakes. His opponents are the ones making the errors, probably because they are facing the world number one and know they have to play well. Nadal has yet to lose a set. David Ferrer is on a winning streak after his tournament victory in Auckland. He has looked very good in the early rounds so far although he is yet to play a top ranked player. Head to head Nadal leads 11-3 and has won the last 7 matches. 2 of Ferrer's 3 wins though have come on hardcourts and one of them was a 4 set win at 2007 US Open. Ferrer will know he can cause Nadal damage especially on his return of serve and punishing groundstrokes. Ferrer needs to get off to a good start and maintain it to have any chance. The odds are too low for a Nadal win so I will go low stakes on a David Ferrer to win or Nadal to win in 4 or 5 sets
Match Prediction:
David Ferrer to win (Value Bet - low stakes)
