Another battle of two powerhouses will commence in the second ladies semi-final at the Australian Open. Vera Zvonareva is aiming to reach her third Grand Slam final in a row today. The Russian number 2 seed is in the form of her life and although she started this tournament a little slowly, as each match has been played Vera has got better and better. She was too good for Petra Kvitova in the quarter finals and is looking to take revenge on Clijsters who beat her in the final of the US Open last year, bringing the Russian to tears. Zvonareva needs to play Clijsters at her own game, attacking the belgians serve and moving her aorund the court as much as possible, trying to make Kim make the mistakes.
Clijsters blasted through the first two rounds but has shown she is human afterall in the last few matches. As well as many winners coming from her racquet, Clijsters made a lot of unforced errors, especially against Radwanska in the quarter final. The Belgian needs to cut out these errors in order o defeat Zvonareva. She has more power than her Russian rival, but she needs to be able to control this. Head to head it is 6-3 to the Belgian, though Zvonareva has won 3 of the last 4 meetings which also all came in 2010. Clijsters is favourtie here but i can see a three set match going the way of the Russian. The match is very hard to call though so low stakes only.
