WTA Madrid: Ana Ivanovic crashes out in 1st round

Ana Ivanovic showed her concentration levels are know where near that of a few years ago after she threw away the match against Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the USA. The Serbian former world number one took the opening set 6-0 and looked to be coasting, but the American got to opponent and a couple of poor service games in each of the next two sets saw Mattek-Sands come through 0-6 6-4 6-4. Ivanovic looks like she will struggle to ever get back to the form of a past Grand Slam Champion.

Serbias main hopes in womens tennis still lie in the consistent Jelena Jankovic who had a good first round win and also newcomer Bojana Jovanovski who is moving up the ranks nicely in 2011 and had a good win over Greta Arn in round 1.
