Battling Baltacha into round 2 in Hobart

Elena Baltacha gave her confidence a boost with a 6-3 6-3 win over the experienced Thai Tamarine Tanasurgan in Hobart. The 27 year old showed glimpses of great form in both sets and has set up an intriguing tie with Italy's Roberta Vinci in the next round. Vinci is favourite to win but was far from impressive in her first round win against Romana Oprandi and is prone to the odd poor service game. Baltacha seems to like the Aussie hardcourts and this could be an ideal ocassion for her to reach her first quarter-final of the year.
