Quality second round match here in Belgrade today. Both players are very experienced and should know how to cope with the windy conditions on court. Lopez is a very up and down player. One minute brilliant and unreturnable, then he can produce a couple of bad games and lose the match, letting things get to him. His second serve is weak and his opponents often attack this. He has a solid clay court game though more of his success has come on hardcourts, suprising for a Spaniard. He did well last week in Barcelona losing in the quarter finals.
Fernando Gonzalez won his first match since last years French Open yesterday. He defeated Slovakian Martin Klizan in straight sets 6-2 6-4 and took a lot of confidence with him into the next round. he admitted in a press conference later that he was a little scared, but also feeling very good and that his movement was very good after his hip operation. Practice and competitive play is the key to his return to the worlds elite. He has a 3-0 winning record again Lopez but they haven't played for quite a few years. Lopez is more match fit, but Gonzalez has the weapons to cause the Spaniard problems. The Chilian is the big underdog in this match and I feel he can cause an upset or at least take Lopez very close. At huge odds, its surely worth a small punt!
