Wimbledon Tennis Women's Final Preview & Prediction: Serena Williams v Garbine Muguruza

Garbine Muguruza makes her debut in a grand slam final when she faces world number 1 Serena Williams on Centre Court at Wimbledon. Is there any bigger tennis arena for her to make a statement to the tennis world?

The Spaniard has nothing to lose. She is the big underdog... could it give her an advantage? Garbine has the power to be able to play Serena at her own game, but will she have the confidence to go for her shots in the biggest match of her career? Muguruza needs to go for it from the start, pressure Serena and get the crowd behind her, she has the ability to. The Wimbledon crowds love a champion but they also love an underdog, Garbine needs to use the crowd's energy to give her confidence. The good news for Mugurza fans is that she has a match win over Serena.... that 6-2 6-2 shock at the 2014 French Open. Garbine also took a set off Serena at this years Australian Open so she knows she is capable of being competitive. Its especially impressive from Muguruza after she lost the first of her 3 meetings with Serena 2-6 0-6 back in Melbourne 2013.

Lets talk about Serena Williams...... she is the world number 1, winner of  20 Grand Slam singles titles, an Olympic Gold medal... Serena is simply a tennis legend - a powerhouse on court. Serena has won this Wimbledon title 5 times already but she is still hungry for more and her main aim though she won't admit it in her interviews is the 'Serena Slam' holding all 4 major titles at the same time and even more exciting winning all 4 majors in the same year. Its very achievable now and only Muguruza stands in her way of getting 75% of the way there! Yet again Serena's serve will be crucial to her chances. Sometimes unplayable Serena's 1st serve wins plenty of cheap points and also sets her up on points enabling her to dominate. Her power around the court is immense and Serena has the capability to shot make from nearly any position. Serena Williams loves to boss her opponents on court and can intimidate them with just her presence at the other side of the net. If Garbine is already nervous then Serena will make her even more nervous.....

Garbine needs to start well, attack and try to move Serena around the court and take away that power that Williams usually has. Serena needs to dominate on serve and also attack the Muguruza serve, stay solid from the back of the court and put pressure on the Spaniard.

Both girls are powerful players and it makes for a great final. I wouldn't expect long rallies, but plenty of winners.

I think Garbine can keep it close......

over 19.5 games 8/11 would be my pick.

If you fancy a small punt then Garbine at 9/2 to win the title and 12/5 over 2.5 sets is risky but full of value.
