ABN AMRO Open, Rotterdam - T Berdych v G Garcia-Lopez

Garcia-Lopez is probably one one of the most consistent perrformers of 2010 and has moved to number 29 in the world at the age of 27, when many thought his best days where behind him. He is comfortable on hard courts as well as the usual clay that most Spaniards prefer. Garcia-Lopez lost easily to Andy Murray in the Australian Open in January but had a better week in Zagreb where he reached the semi-finals losing to Dodig, a match he should have won.

Tomas Berdych reached the quarter-finals in Melbourne losing to eventual winner Novak Djokovic in straight sets, but looked good. The 2010 Wimbledon finalist will like the indoor courts in Rotterdam and his serve may be unreturnable.

Berdych is the heavy favourite here but Garcia-Lopez does lead the head to head meetings 2-1 and the last time they played Garcia-Lopez won on hardcourts in straight sets. So do not dismiss the Spaniard. I think Berych though may have too much consistency for his opponent.

Match Prediction:

Tomas Berdych to win.
