WTA Birmingham - Semi Final Match Predictions

S Peng to beat S Lisicki: Great quality match up between two players who are capable on their day of beating the best in the world. Lisicki is the firm favourite with the bookies and had a great win over former champ Rybarikova in the quarter finals in straight sets. The German can be very determined when she wants to be and will fight Peng for every point. The Chinese star though has already won 36 matches in 2011 and taken over $500,000 of prize money this year, illustrating she can be tough opposition and would love to reach another WTA final. She has seen what Li Na can do and wants to be as equally impressive. Value here is for a Peng win, but it won't be easy.

D Hantuchova to beat A Ivanovic - Two former world class players who now find themselves fighting for a top 20 WTA rankings. Hantuchova is a steady player on grass and had had good results before at Wimbledon. She has impressed mainly in 2011 winning a WTA tour title and giving some good performances, notably at the French Open where she defeated world number one Caroline Wozniacki amongst others. The Slovak needs her 1st serve to be working, otherwise Ivanovic will attack the second with aggression. Ivanovic has played well all week here in Birmingham and is a good grass court player. The Serbian though is too inconsistent of late and cannot be trusted to put in a great performance day in day out. Head to head Ivanovic leads 4-1 with a few 3 setters along the way. Notably though is the one win for Hantuchova came on the grass courts of S'Hertogendosch in the Netherlands. Although way back in 2007, the Slovakian was a comfortable winner 6-3 6-1 and will be full of confidence. The bookies have this match very even, and I think there is value in a Hantuchova win.
