Australian Open 2nd round - Mens Match Prediitions

For all you guys that like a short price here are some of the better ones

F Lopez @ 1.25 to beat F Cipolla - Lopez should be too consistent for the Italian, eventhough Cipolla upset Davydenko in the lasr round. Lopez very consistent in these types of matches and his serve should win a lot of cheap points

I Karlovic @ 1.28 to beat C Berlocq - Great price here. Karlovic took out Melzer last round and his serve will be difficult to break. Berlocq an out and out clay courter. Expect even this short price to drop.

C McHale @ 1.44 to beat M Erakovic - The American is still the best hope the country has after the Williams sisters retire. She has a good game, strieks the ball well and already has a good win over Safarova in the 1st round. Erakovic could cause a suprise on grass, but Mchale should take this at a nice price

Some other medium to short odds worth condisering.....

Lu @ 1.44 to beat Serra - The French player nearly went out to Darcis in the 1st round and Lu should be too strong here for the French qualifier. Both players struggle on their 2nd serves though so if theis is not working for one of them then this could spell trouble

K Anderson to beat S Stakhovsky - The South African had a great 2011 and had a easy win in the first round. Stakhovsky is talented but has never made it to the top. He fought against team mate Marchenko in the first round and he may find Kevin too strong today... Not one to punt a lot of money on though, because Stakhovsky is capable of a suprise

B Tomic @ 1.33 to beat S Querrey - Two very capable hardcourt players. Tomic though will have the crowd behind him and will be pumped after his Verdasco victory. Querrey has a good serve and ground strokes, but he has the crowd to face as well as his opponent and this could be the deciding factor. Querrey is finding his feet again after dropping down the rankings and I think this match may have come too soon.

Some larger prices worthy of consideration

G Dimitrov @ 2.10 to beat N Almagro - There is value either way in this match. the problem is finding the winner. Almagro is not in world beating form., but he is getting results. His beat Kubot in the 1st round having lost the 1st set 6-1, whilst Dimitrov took out Chardy in 5 sets... Chardy in good form though. as always 1st serves will be important, and both players have powerful ground strokes well suited to hardcourts. I think 2012 will be a big year for the Bulgarian and this could be a hardfought match.... tight, but more value lies with the underdog

J Isner @ 2.20 to beat D Nalbandian - H2H it is 2-0 to the Argentinian, but one of those matches was an Isner 1st set retirement. The other was a close battle in Auckland last year 6-4 7-6. Nalbandian defeats Nieminen in the 1st round when the Finn retired and was exhausted. He is in any brilliant form but is capable of good results in Melbourne, remember his huge match with Hewitt!!? Isner though has come on strong again and re-entered the worlds top 20 rankings. In 2010 Isner lost to Murray in the 4th round having already beaten Monfils. In 2011 the tall American lost in a 5th set marathon 9-7 to Marin Cilic! He is hard to break down and his huge serve will get plenty of cheap points and save many a BP. Again its a hardone to call, but i would expect money to come for Isner later today, he may even start the favourite

S M Bahgdatis @ 1.66 to beat S Wawrinka- Another very even tie. The Cypriot is playing good tennis and defeated Del Potro last week in Sydney. He then though lost to Benneteau showing his results are inconsistent. He does however have a good record in Melbourne. reaching the final in 2006 losing in 4 sets to Federer. in 2009 he lost in 4 sets to Djokovic and also has wins over the likes of Soderling, Ferrer and Del Potro and Fish in recent years....Wawrinka though reached the QF last year losing easily to Federer. But in that tournament he defeated Roddick . Monfils and Dimitrov in straight sets. This match really is too close to call, but never the less i though i would offer some judgement in case you fancy a punt.
