Womens Australian Open 2nd round - Wednesday Predictions

Short odds

C McHale to beat M Erakovic - The US youngster already took out Safarova in the 1st round and should dominate this match up. Erakovic plays her best tennis on grass and although able to defeat some good players on her day, I think Mchale will out serve and out hit the Kiwi. Nice price for the American

a Few slight favourites

N Bratchikova @ 1.57 to beat A Brianti - After her first round win over Pennetta Nina should be full of confidence. A bit of a late developer, the Russian has looked a different player already in 2012 and will look to make her entry into the top 100. Brianti is very experienced though and will fight all the way. She never gives up. Not one to have much confidence in or add to a accumulator, but the russian should win.

Big outside punts... very low stakes but capable of an upset

I Benesova @3.20 to beat S Peng - The Czech is 2-0 H2H with Peng though these matches where a long time ago. Iveta posseses a game capable of defeating Peng and will fight all the way with her Chinese opponent. She will not fear Shuai. Peng though is tough and consistent, very rarely makes errors and can dominate rallies. Benesova has defeated mary Pierce in melbourne before and last year took out Kirilenko and pavlyuchenkova, before losing to Zvonareva. Peng defeated Jankovic last year before losing to Radwanska in 3 sets. i think the match will be closer than the bookies expect and Benesova +3.5 games @ 1.80 may also have a chance.

P Cetkovska @3.00 to beat M Barthel. - Cetkovska is a very good player and loves a fight in a Grand Slam. There are doubts about her fitness though and with Barthel in such good form, the bookies favour the German big time. i think Cetkovska can do something here though and is H2H 1-0, though this was on clay. Both girls have made dramatic leaps in 2011 and barthel is too much of a favourite here for my liking!
