Australian Open 4th Round - Jankovic v Wozniacki

J Jankovic @ 2.80 to beat C Wozniacki - The Danish world number 1 is the big favourite in this match up. She has looked good so far in her first 3 matches, however the strength of her opponents has been poor. Caroline still looking for her 1st grand slam title reached the SF last year losing a close 3 setter to Li Na.. Wozniacki's happiness off the court with boyfriend Rory McIlroy may well help her relax before these big matches and will make the Dane hard to beat. However the odds @ 1.40 for the win in my eyes is too short to even gamble on. Jankovic has also impressed in the early rounds with straight set demolishions of Robson, Chang and improving American Christina McHale who she destroyed 6-0 6-2. Jelena is also a former semi-finalist here, but this was back in 2008 when she was fighting for the worlds number one spot. She has lacked consistency since then, and is vunerable on her serve, however she posseses some big power, cracking ground strokes and is a real fighter. If she allows Wozniacki to dominate, then she could struggle, if she stays with her, goes for her shots then she can cause Caroline some problems. H2H Wozniacki has won the 3 matches all in 2011, however 2 of those where on clay. Jankovic still holds a career H2H of 4-3 including 3 on hardcourts. it is interesting also to see that all Jankovic's wins have come in 2 Grand Slams, (wimbledon/UsOpen) a WTA season ending champs, and the 5th major at Indian Wells. Jankovic will enjoy being the underdog and will not be scared. She needs to stay focused, keep herself from getting frustrated and keep her body loose whilst hitting her shots. Its a risky punt, but one worth taking. Jankovic to cause the upset, or at least snatch a set.
